Intro:

Programmes run by the Millers Point Youth & Employment Partnership really do make a difference in the lives of young people. Read their stories and hear their impact.

Program:

Rocksfest

Sarah* was in Year 11 when she became involved with MPYEP’s first Rocksfest in 2005.

Rocksfest is an ongoing programme offering local youth first-hand experience in event management.

She was shy, a typical quiet achiever, but her skills did not go unnoticed. She did such a good job managing the budget for Rocksfest that she was selected to attend the inaugural Activate Leadership Programme. She travelled to Melbourne by herself to take part in the programme with a group of young people she had never met. This in itself was a great achievement.

As a result of attending the programme, her confidence grew enormously. During the presentation she made to the MPYEP Board on her experiences at the Activate camp, the Board saw someone who had really taken advantage of the opportunity given to her.

Sarah went on to complete her Higher School Certificate and then got accepted into a highly regarded hospitality course

She still visits the friends she made on the Activate camp.
